Highlights of the Major Misconceptions Surrounding Sexuality

By Francis K Githinji

What is sex according to your own understanding? One of the greatest misconceptions surrounding sexuality is that sex is all about intercourse. This is just a myth because there are other major sex acts that are more intimate than the real penetrative sex. The reality of the matter is any form of romance including kissing, cuddling, fondling and stimulating the genitals orally are all forms of sex. If you do all these and fail to involve the genitals you will have had sex. Many people fail to touch their partners because of the misconception that no one should begin what they cannot finish. It is not a must that every time you touch someone's hand it has to be followed by a hug, a kiss, a cuddle and end in intercourse. One might not be prepared to go all the way and it is not a crime in anyway. People should allow their feelings to rule over. If you just feel like fondling her hand, just do that and stop at that without feeling guilty.

One of the misconceptions surrounding sexuality involves talking about sex. There are some people who feel like jumping out of their own skin when they hear someone else talk about it. This has led to so many avoidable mistakes due to lack of necessary communication. Talking about sex is perceived by many as unnatural, improper or unnecessary. Sex is mostly compared to driving. It does not mean that the harder you drive the better you drive the car. You can be relaxed and slow and still enjoy your driving. There is a misconception that sex must be by all means spontaneous. This is usually coupled by the myth that a firm manhood is important for satisfying sex. Nothing can be further from the truth.

Have you ever imagined old people having sex? I know you are frowning at my remark because we always imagine that sex is only a thing for the old. This is wrong. Sex is a pleasure given by nature to manhood and should be enjoyed at every chance. Old people are also active in sex and in some instances perform even better than youngsters. It is funny how we react when we see an old woman who is pregnant. Sex is a pleasure for both the old and the young. Among the major misconceptions surrounding sexuality is that men should be the ones to always initiate sex. This has left passionate women struggling with desires whenever the man fails to make any sexual advances. To maintain passion and romance in any relationship women should learn to initiate sex with no element of shyness or embarrassment.

Everybody who initiates sex always has the aim of attaining orgasm. The truth of the matter is, it does not always happen. Among the greatest misconceptions surrounding sexuality is that good sex must end with multiple orgasms. It is not always when you cook food that it comes out nicely. Sometimes it gets burnt, sometimes it is not just right. The same thing applies to sex. Good sex does not always lead to heavy climaxes.
